SQ3R Textbook Method
Stop reading dense chapters from page 1 like a novel. Follow SQ3R: Survey headings first, turn them into Questions, Read to answer those questions, Recite from memory, and Review.
Skimming headings and turning them into questions gives your brain a 'search target' before you read a single paragraph.
You read 30 pages of biology linearly, reach the bottom of the page, and realize you have no idea what you just read.
- Survey (2 mins): Skim all headings, bold terms, charts, and the chapter summary first.
- Question: Turn each section heading into a 'How' or 'Why' question before reading.
- Read & Recite: Read one section to answer your question, then state the answer out loud without looking.
- Review: Quiz yourself on your heading questions the next day.
