The shorter 2-hour GRE has zero room for careless Quant Comparison traps.
With only 27 Quant and 27 Verbal questions total, each question carries massive weight. Here is how to lock in 165+ scores using structural elimination.
The 5-step GRE 330+ Verbal & Quant mastery system
On Quantitative Comparison (QC), test the "ZONEF" numbers before picking A, B, or C
When comparing Quantity A and Quantity B with variables, never just plug in x = 2 and stop! Test Z (Zero), O (One), N (Negative numbers), E (Extreme numbers like 100), and F (Fractions between 0 and 1). If the winner changes, pick D immediately!
Simplify across Quantity A and Quantity B like an inequality
Instead of computing giant numbers on QC questions, add, subtract, or divide positive constants from BOTH Quantity A and Quantity B simultaneously to strip away visual clutter.
Use the "Synonym Pairing Strategy" on Sentence Equivalence (SE)
Every 6-choice Sentence Equivalence question usually contains two synonym pairs and two lone decoys. Group the 6 choices into synonym pairs FIRST—if a word has no synonym partner among the other 5 choices, eliminate it!
Solve Text Completion (TC) by finding the Pivot + Clue Word inside the sentence
GRE sentences are self-contained logic puzzles. Circle the structural signposts (Although, Despite, Far from, Because, Indeed) and fill the blank with your own simple word (+ or -) before uncovering the vocabulary choices.
Learn GRE Vocabulary by semantic clusters and roots, not A-to-Z lists
Group words by meaning clusters with our Glossary Trainer (e.g., "Talkative": garrulous, loquacious, prolix, verbose vs. "Brief/Silent": laconic, taciturn, reticent, pithy).

Data Interpretation & Percent Change
Avoid mixing up "percent of" vs. "percent increase" and weighted averages.
Geometric figures on the GRE are NOT necessarily drawn to scale!
Unless a coordinate grid is shown, an angle that looks like 90° or a triangle that looks isosceles on the screen can be stretched or squished. Only trust explicitly labeled angles, parallel lines, and algebraic rules.
