Ace Any Math or Science Class:
Part 2 — Breaking the Freeze

🎓Tuteur IA d'Étude

You sit down for the test, turn to the first page, read the question, and your heart sinks. You have no idea what it's asking. Panic sets in, and you stare at a blank page for five minutes.

We've all been there. But there is a simple, mechanical recipe you can follow when this happens.

The "Given-Find" Recipe ⚙️

When your brain freezes, it's because the problem feels too big. You need to break it down into tiny, bite-sized pieces. Even if you don't know the answer, you can always extract the pieces.

  • Step 1: The Givens. Literally write the word "Givens:" on your paper. Read the problem and pull out every single number and fact. For example, write down speed = 5 m/s, time = 10s.
  • Step 2: The Find. Write the word "Find:" and state exactly what the final answer should be. For example, write Find: Distance in meters.
  • Step 3: The Sketch. If the problem describes anything real, draw it. A block on a ramp. A moving car. A triangle. Drawing the problem takes the heavy lifting out of your brain and puts it on the paper.

💡 The Magic of Movement

Just the simple act of writing down the "Givens" forces your brain out of "panic mode" and into "action mode." It breaks the freeze.

Action Steps

Follow this recipe when you freeze on a problem.

1Pulling Out the Pieces

  • Write the word "GIVEN:" at the top of a blank page and list every number or fact from the question.
  • Write the word "FIND:" below that, and write down exactly what the final answer should look like.
  • Draw a messy, quick sketch of the problem (e.g., a stick figure pushing a block).

2Connecting the Dots

  • Jot down any math formulas you can remember that use the words from your "GIVEN" list.
  • Write down the units (like meters or seconds) next to every single number before doing any math.
